This past weekend Jonathan and I viewed a fabulous house south of downtown Columbus. It was a HUD home, requiring the prospective buyers to place a bid on it. The deal is, HUD accepts the best and highest bid. The starting bid on the place was $85,000.
We loved it. Though it had no floors and stunk to hell (there was an animal, we think it may have been left behind when the bank took posession of the home), we could see it beyond the surface and we could see ourselves living there. We got nervous. As in, we got so excited that we were about to make the purchase of our lives. We decided to place a bid on it, and with our realtor's recommendation, we bid $91,000. We would find out the next day.
Monday I got a phone call from our realtor and she asked if I had a minute. I said yes, and all of a sudden my throat felt like it was closing. She said we'd lost the bid.
DAMMIT!
I was so disappointed. She said that the winning bid was $102,000. Which makes me feel a bit better because at least it was $12K over and not as little as $1000, which would have made me really irritated. However, we would have had to put a lot of money into flooring and appliances which, at that price, would have put us in a monthly payment that just wasn't going to work for us at our current income.
So, we're moving along to the next one. Keep your fingers crossed for us.
