Tattoo #2
Jamie has desperately been wanting to refinish the hearts on her right foot for about 5 years now. She brought an idea design to an artist at Envy Skin Gallery a few days ago, and on Sunday, went to approve the one he'd created for her. Myself and our friend Valerie went along - Val also wanted to get some new ink, so she also brought a new design, one she'd done herself, with her. I tagged along thinking I'd be there for moral support.
Sunday afternoon the three of us showed up at Envy. Jamie's artist told her and Valerie to come back in an hour. Jamie and Val are so excited - the two of them encouraged me to draw something up and see if I could get one that day. I was really nervous - fundage is low at this time of the month, and I had a design in mind, but wanted to really tweak it to where I felt comfortable permanently putting it on my body. The three of us walked over to BW's and had a beer (well, ok, I had like, 3 sips of a cocktail but couldn't stomach the rest of it), and I drew something up on a napkin.45 minutes later we're back in the gallery and the guys who run the store have won me over, Jamie has encouraged me, and I give in to the spirit of the day - I decided to go ahead and get it done!
Val is the first to go. Her design is the symbol for the zodiac sign of Libra. She's done in 10 minutes without a peep. What a trooper!! This is her own design - elle est une artiste, oui?

Jamie and I get ours done at about the same time, and poor Valerie is stuck running between both rooms to hold hands and take pictures.
All of a sudden, I felt my face get a little cold and prickly. My eyes started seeing blurry and I told Jeremiah (my artist) that I wasn't feeling well. He stopped, sat me up, put a cold wet towel on the back of my neck and gave me a bottle of water. Apparently my blood sugar had gone haywire. I don't remember feeling like that when I got my first tattoo done!!! Val ran to get me some candy, and I felt better after a bit.
3 minutes later I tell him to stop again - my blood sugar has caused my digestive system to go into over drive, and I'm limping to the bathroom as fast as I can possibly go. I think they thought I was going to be ill, but I just really had to go!
Finally, after calming down and psyching myself up for that last few minutes of more pain than I remembered, and Jamie next to me letting me squeeze the shit out of her arm, it was done. I was inked.
What a freaking day - I plan to get another done at some point. I have a significant birthday next year - maybe I'll go for a new one then. ;-)I sort ofAfter leaving the gallery, we stopped at my place to chill a while, then headed over to Jamie's house. We spent the evening chatting, playing pool, drinking insane amounts of wine, and oohing and aahing over our new art.
