100 Things

On Jamie's encouragement.

1. I love to vacuum because I can see the floor get cleaner.

2. One of my favorite things to do over the weekend is laundry.

3. I used to watch MTV as a 3 year old. I had a crush on Bruce Springsteen.

4. When my sister and I were in school we used to fight all the time. Now I couldn't bear to live life without her.

5. I want to have children more than I'll admit, but I get easily annoyed by misbehaving kids in public.

6. I hate seeing wires and cords behind the tv or any other entertainment/electronic equipment.
7. I love dark chocolate. Can't stand milk chocolate. You can keep the Hershey bars.

8. I'm starting to like beer!!!! (it only took me 28 years...)

9. Starbucks coffee is one of my favorite places to be. Any Starbucks, anywhere. So sue me.

10. I wish I didn't still have dreams that include a previous boyfriend.

11. I can't stand snobby swing dancers.

12. Actually, I can't stand snobby anyone.

13. I used to want to be in movies more than anything - but now I would much rather do the movie makeup.

14. I try to see the good in all people. Maybe I'm looking at the world through rose colored glasses, but I know they're not all assholes.

15. I wish there was a way to be truly tan without stupid creams and the risk of skin cancer.

16. I used to lift my legs and stare at my feet while pointing my toes like a ballet dancer, pretending I was on stage, or pretending I was a foot model. I like my feet.

17. I love severe thunderstorms. I get huge adrenaline rushes when I see red on the radar.

18. I wish my girlfriends would stop complaining that they are too heavy - I am the heaviest of all of my girlfriends, and I think they're all perfect.

19. I wish I could be an interior designer.

20. I think I've pigeonholed myself into retail.

21. I want to live in a foreign country, to learn about and immerse myself in a different culture.

22. I am happiest when I'm on a plane traveling somewhere.

23. I love - no, am obsessed with - weddings. Everything about them. They're truly the happiest of occasions - they celebrate love.

24. I don't want any of my married friends to ever have to go through a divorce. If I ever had to go through a divorce I would probably lose all my sanity and have to get placed into permanent mental care.

25. My mother is the best person in the world. If I can be like her, I WIN.

26. I really hate that my grandparents and other members of my family will actually believe things like, "Barack Obama is a Muslim" - it makes me lose faith in humanity, and their intelligence. FYI - Barack Obama is Christian, people. Get your heads out of the "culture of fear" thing.

27. I really really really really want to name a son Samuel. If it happened, Jonathan wouldn't let me. I've always wanted that name. Always. It freakin' pisses me off.

28. There are days when I really hate my job. There are also days when I'm ok with it.

29. I want to get engaged, and I want it to be a private moment - and there's a place and time when I really would love for that to happen. But I feel like I'd spoil it if I told you.

30. Jonathan and I are going on a week long vacation to San Francisco in March. I cannot wait. We're also taking a day trip or two to Napa Valley while we're there!

31. I hate clutter and will get on a roll if I start cleaning, so watch out.

32. I've made out with one girl in my life. It was cooler than I thought.

33. My favorite holiday is Halloween.

34. The best class I ever took in college was in the Slavic department. They call it the "Vampire" class because it's a huge study in Eastern European beliefs and customs - vampires being a main focus. I ate it up. I think it's the only GEC I ever got an A in.

35. I really wish I had studied harder and gotten better grades throughout high school and college.

36. I don't like many Ohio State Football fans anymore. When they're idiots, they're mean and say stupid things that irk the rest of the athletic world. They've really ruined good sportsmanship for the rest of us who aren't tactless.

37. One of Jonathan and my first dates was at a coffee shop. I remember that he wore a gray sport coat, and I had a peppermint mocha. I used to hate coffee, and now I can barely go a day without it.

38. I love to dance. It makes me feel balanced on the inside. Lindy Hop and Balboa are my favorite styles.

39. I have a wish list on Amazon.com, and I think everyone in the world should get one. Especially now since you can put anything from any website on it!!! It seriously is the best way to shop for people!!!

40. My favorite wine is Riesling. Followed very closely by Zinfandel.

41. I think my birthday is so freaking cool. There's just something about the date "October 17" that I can't put my finger on, but I love it.

42. The very first football game I ever attended I don't remember. It was an Ohio State game. The second one, however, was very memorable. I was 8. My dad asked if I wanted to go with him to see a game. We went to Notre Dame to see them play Stanford. Notre Dame won, with a score of 42-14.

43. I get a subscription to InStyle Magazine. I love it.

44. I have a history of codependency. I don't know which parent I got that from.

45. I really like going to lunch with my friends. I know it's cheaper to bring your lunch but the time spent with those people is what really matters.

46. Along those same lines, my good friend Dave said something that has stayed with ever since he said it: "What's money for if you can't spend it on your friends?". I think he had a point. He also bought my lunch that day. :)

47. I have a love for ramen noodles - the kind that come in the styrofoam cup and all you have to do is pour boiling water over them and let them heat up for 3 minutes. It's so tasty to me, and I'll never apologize for liking them so much.

48. My cat is 7 years old. I thought about how long he's been with me last night, and I realized he's been with me through every important romantic relationship I've had. At least Simon never dumped me. ;)

49. I have one tattoo. I want more.

50. My favorite colors are navy blue and green.

51. I'd never been blonde until this summer.

52. I have had a hard time getting over the need for everyone in my world to like me. It still means a lot, what everyone thinks, but over the past few years I've developed a better sense of choosing my battles.

53. I wish I were closer with my stepsisters.

54. I want to know more about my Scottish heritage. I only know vague bits and pieces.

55. I always feel silly when someone gives me a gift I don't really care for. I would rather stick a knife in my eyes than tell someone I wasn't fond of what they gave me.

56. Similarly, I LOVE buying gifts for people! I tend to spend way more than I budget for birthday and holiday gifts. But like Dave said, what's money for if you can't spend it on your friends??

57. My mom's side of the family is absolutely hysterical - and sooooo diverse! I've never met a more unlikely related bunch of people in my life. But they all support and care so deeply for one another. They give me great faith in humanity and the possibility of unconditional love.

58. I'm often more judgmental than I mean to be. Sometimes I'm judgemental and I don't even realize it, or I think that I'm not being that way. Sometimes I wonder if being judgemental is a learned habit or if it's just human nature?

59. I would really like to live in a bigger city. I have grandiose dreams of living in New York City.

60. Alternately, I'd also like a cottage somewhere off the beaten path, on the east coast, where it gets cold and the wind blows, but you can still see the ocean. I see myself sitting in a giant rocking chair wearing a huge, roomy off-white cable knit sweater and wrapped in a blanket that Aunt Dianna made me. With hurricane lamps and hard wood floors.

61. I have the most vivid, detailed dreams of anyone I know. I remember colors, textures, environments, everything. I even remember feelings. I wish I could make movies of my dreams. I think they would be entertaining in an avant-garde kind of way.

62. My best friend Jamie is one of the most important people who have ever come into my life. I love her so much, and I would not be who I am today without having had her in it. If you do not know her, you should get to know her. She is amazing, beautiful, kind, hilarious, smart as a whip, strong, confident, did I say drop-dead gorgeous? I could write a book.

63. I once had a giant snake wrapped around my neck, one in my hands, and two birds - one on my head, the other on my shoulder - all at the same time.

64. When I was 10, I beat up the boy down the street for making fun of my sister. I broke his glasses. I got in a lot of trouble that day, but it was worth it.

65. Jonathan looks amazing dressed up in a suit and tie. Hott.

66. I love the beach.

67. I have a giant collection of CDs.

68. I spent my freshman year of college almost 2500 miles away at the University of Arizona. I've never had a better GPA in my life. Sometimes I wish I had not come back.

69. I applied to five colleges: Purdue, Eastern Michigan, Penn State, Miami U of Ohio, and University of Arizona. I was accepted to all five.

70. I absolutely LOVE my Canadian friends. They are so freakin' awesome!

71. I have been to the top of the Eiffel Tower.

72. I am awesome at navigating in foreign countries. I learn public transit faster than anything else.

73. One of my favorite bands of all time is The Catherine Wheel. Sadly, they do not exist anymore.

74. I like to decorate with color.

75. I love my therapy sessions. My doctor is so cool, and I look forward to every appointment.

76. I want to lose weight so badly. But I never get motivated enough to go work out.

77. I have horrible body image issues. That could turn into another blog altogether.

78. I really wish my dad would hurry up and propose to his girlfriend, who has patiently waited for 10 years for him to shit, or get off the pot. It's just so much easier to say "stepmom" than "my dad's girlfriend"!!!

79. I have secretly wished I could try out for American Idol and make it to Hollywood.

80. I got really curious in the Metro in Paris and pushed a big red button when I was ten. A lot of lights started flashing and a loud voice came over the PA system. My parents shooed us out of there faster than you could say "Sortie!!"

81. I think Clive Owen is one of the sexiest men alive. I think it's because Closer is one of my favorite movies...

82. My name in Gaelic is Caitlín Mairéad. Hence the blog title.

83. I wanted to major in Atmospheric Science or Astronomy before I figured out that I couldn't do math, and landed on Theatre.

84. I have premonitions every few years or so. They're usually vague and fleeting, but they're there. I think about them, eventually forget them, and then once the event happens, I always knew it was coming.

85. I déja vu like nobody's business.

86. I really wanted that other couch.

87. I used to hate taking baths and showers when I was little, because I was always freezing and shivering when I got out!!! Then my mom introduced me to the process of drying off, instead of just holding the towel around myself. Magic!

88. There are incriminating photos of me with chicken pox out there. I still have a couple scars. I think my entire grade got it that year. First grade was awesome.

89. I worked at the Gap from 1997 to 2006.

90. Japan is freaking sweet. There is a giant Buddha in Kyoto that you HAVE to see. (Or was it in Nara?)

91. I've ridden on both the Bullet Train and the TGV. Trains are my favorite mode of transportation.

92. I have actually witnessed a triple rainbow.

93. My Aunt Doreen taught me how to split the seed pod of a helicopter and put it on my nose so I looked like a Rhinoceros.

94. The best road trip ever? A 12-passenger van, including my mom, dad, Christine, Aunt Doreen and Uncle Vince, plus my cousins Robert and Dana. We traveled from just north of London, England, all the way up to Edinburgh. I don't remember wanting to kill each other, just how amazing and beautiful it was.

95. The tallest Jesus I've ever seen was in Portugal.

96. Now that I'm almost finished, I'm coming up with all kinds of things to say.

97. Contrary to popular belief, I believe in God.

98. I've always wanted to see a drag show.

99. I wish I looked like Kate Beckinsale or Anne Hathaway.

100. One of these things... is a lie. ;)

Ok, your turn!

Shauna, that is actually true. There is a picture of me somewhere from my trip to Key West. Some guy on the street just started putting animals on me. It was an experience. :)

Well, then...I guess you'd better email me the correct lie! I'm so curious about it!! :)

ps - You are NOT the heaviest of all of your friends. I, my friend, have a gained a little weight. :)
