I really related to the main character in this novel. Mirabelle goes through some of the same emotions I do, and Steve Martin shows an uncanny understanding of a young woman on a slow path to self assurance and freedom. The flow of his words mirrored my own daily walk through depression. After all of Mirabelle's experiences, at the end of the day she remained Mirabelle the lonely until Ray breaks her heart. However, the pain of that becomes the gem of the experience and Mirabelle finds her heart in time to break through and come out of a coma induced by the superficiality of L.A. life. This is a book about growing and finding your path no matter who you are or where you are in life.
